In Onoff Business, a number and a license are two different things. Knowing the difference helps you assign lines correctly and keep your bill under control.
The number
A number is the virtual phone line assigned to a member. It is used to make and receive calls, and to send and receive SMS and MMS depending on the country. Landline numbers do not support SMS.
Each number has a country and a type (mobile or landline).
The license
A license is the right to use a number. You need an available license to assign a number, and a license holds only one number at a time.
You are billed for licenses, not numbers. Only the account Owner can buy or delete licenses. Admins can view and assign them.
What happens in each situation
| Situation | Effect on licenses |
|---|---|
| You assign a new number | An available license is used |
| No license is available | The Owner must buy a license. If the Owner assigns the number, the purchase happens automatically at assignment. |
| You delete a number | The license becomes available again and is still billed |
| You reassign a number to another member | The same license is kept |
License billing
- Licenses renew automatically based on your billing cycle (monthly or yearly).
- An unassigned license is still billed until you delete it.
- To stop paying for a license, the Owner deletes it in Manage product > Licenses.
Example
Your account has 3 licenses and 2 assigned numbers, so 1 license is free. You want to give a number to two new members. The first one uses the free license at no extra cost. For the second, the Owner needs to buy an extra license.
Check your licenses before assigning a number
The Manage product > Licenses page shows your available and assigned licenses. Check it before assigning numbers.
