Troubleshooting Call Quality Issues with Onoff

1. Check your internet connection (for VoIP calls)

Poor or unstable internet is the #1 cause of call-quality problems.

  • Make sure you have strong WiFi or 4G/5G data.
  • Try switching between WiFi and mobile data.
  • Avoid public or overloaded WiFi networks.
  • Run a speed test: you need at least 1–2 Mbps for stable VoIP calls.

If your signal is weak → move closer to the router or switch networks.

2. Close background apps

Apps running in the background can consume bandwidth or CPU, causing audio delays and interruptions.

➡️ Close all unused apps before calling.

3. Restart your device

A simple reboot can reset network processes and fix temporary audio glitches.

4. Disable VPNs, proxies, or firewalls

These can interfere with VoIP traffic.

  • Turn off any VPN or proxy.
  • Temporarily disable restrictive firewalls (especially on corporate networks).

If the call quality improves, the issue is related to network restrictions.

5. Check your microphone and speaker permissions

Make sure the calling app is allowed to access your audio hardware.

On iOS and Android:

  • Go to Settings > App Permissions
  • Enable Microphone, Phone, and Bluetooth (if using a headset)

6. Test with and without headphones or Bluetooth

Faulty Bluetooth devices can create:

  • static noise
  • echo
  • audio delays

➡️ Try switching to the device’s built-in microphone.

7. Update your app and your operating system

Outdated versions can cause:

  • audio bugs
  • compatibility issues
  • VoIP instability

Always keep:

  • the app → updated
  • your device → updated
  • your browser (if using Web App) → updated

8. Toggle Airplane Mode ON/OFF

A quick reset of your mobile network can improve call quality on GSM calls.

  1. Turn on Airplane Mode
  2. Wait 5 seconds
  3. Turn it off

This forces the device to reestablish a clean network connection.

9. Try another network environment

If the issue disappears when:

  • using another WiFi
  • using mobile data
  • calling from another location

→ the problem comes from your local network, not your device or the app.

10. If you're using Onoff Calls (VoIP → GSM gateway)

Toggle Onoff Calls OFF and ON again, or test calls in:

  • GSM mode (Onoff Calls OFF)
  • WiFi/Data mode (VoIP only)

Depending on your coverage, one mode may be better than the other.
