Gateway numbers

When you make a call, an unknown number may appear briefly on your screen, different from the one you dialed. This is a gateway number: a technical number used by Onoff servers to set up the call. This is normal.

Key points

  • The gateway number only shows on your side, for a few seconds.
  • The person you call always sees your Onoff number.
  • It has no effect on call quality or features.
  • It is only used to set up the connection: don't save it or call it back.

Abroad

If you use the app from a country other than your Onoff number's, your mobile operator may charge the call to the gateway number as an international call. To avoid this, turn on Call via Wi-Fi/data.
